Remembering 9/11: Where Is Justice Today?

On September 11, 2001, attacks on America devastated and broke our hearts from the loss of many family members and fellow citizens. But it also broke our economic systems in New York and beyond. We as Americans from all backgrounds, cultures, economics status and geographic locations across our country were affected in some way from those vicious attacks.

A total of 2,977 people were killed.

2500 Victims including passengers and crew on the four hijacked planes and people at the World Trade Center at the Pentagon.

  • 412 First Responders

  • 343 Firefighters

  • 71 Police Officers

  • 8 EMTs

Immediately following the attack there was an increase in Americans returning to religious institutions for comfort across the country. However, that increase in our religious institutions was short lived.

Now, 25 years later America is at War with Iran. The military conflict began in February of this year with joint U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iranian targets. Both America and Iran have targeted oil tankers and energy infrastructure.

What part of this war is Justice for humankind?

Justice Before the War.

  • The Rule: Nations must have a lawful and necessary reason to start a war, such as proven immediate self-defense.

  • The Reality: Legal experts state that the U.S. strikes on Iran beginning in February 2026 violated the United Nations Charter because Iran had not launched an immediate armed attack on the U.S.

  • JusticeIssue: Without a legal or defensive reason, starting the conflict fails the test of foundational global justice.

Justice During War.

  • The Rule: Armies must protect civilians, treat prisoners humanely, and avoid destroying schools, hospitals, or basic survival needs.

  • TheReality: Human rights monitors, including Human Rights Watch, report that sides in the 2026 conflict have broken international humanitarian laws.

  • Justice Issue: Attacks on civilian infrastructure and threats of extreme violence are condemned as crimes against humanity and violations of global norms.

  • True Justicefor mankind requires holding all nations accountable to these rules, regardless of who started the fight.

What can we do as we see the state we are in for human kind? We must pray for our leaders. We must pray for our safety as a nation and we ourselves must walk in Justice, doing and advocating for what is right.
